2018 Autum Harvest Trip Day 3

After day 2 I found myself completely drained. It was probably for the best that our first stop was Ikarashi Ozumi, which is about 40 minutes drive from our base.

Ikarashi Ozumi, or commonly known as simply Ozumi breeds a massove variety of metallic koi, as well as some Asagi, Goshiki and Kigoi. On this occasion I didn't find what I was looking for, but there were lots of very attractive koi.

The next breeder we visited is by far the largest operation in the area, Marusei koi farm. Like Ozumi he breeds too many varieties to list, but not so many metallics. From memory he only metalics he breeds are Ogon, Kujaku, and metallic Matsuba. You will find koi of all sizes and quality here. Yoshiyuki was busy on this visit so we couldn't get everything we needed but his father sorted out some big Yamabuki for us. The Yambuki here are from Izumiya parents (though I suspect most you can find are!).
The next visit wouldn't have happened so easy had I been driving myself. Kase called to say he had just harvested. We hoped to tie in the visit with Ozumi earlier but Kase said he didn't have stock when called the previous day. When we arrived it was like Christmas had come early, but instead of red and green it was black and white!
Once I had the Shiro Utsuri I looked to the more unsual fish that Kase is known for. In recent years his Showa have improved vastly, and has Dainichi blood in his breeding stock.
I looked in the next pond at the sansai, and fancied a few of the Showa but they were more expensive than I needed for shop stock. The sansai Shiro Utsuri were exceptional!
From here it was a late visit to Chogurou where I found a wonderful Shiro Utsuri but I passed because of my purchases at Kase.
We didn't get many breeders today because of the travelling but on the whole I got back to the hotel in a good mood. Don't forget to check out our latest koi for sale from our trip, new koi being added today/tonight.
